OVERDUE Update!!

So quite a bit has happened since February…let’s see. March was pretty quiet, we had a quick trip down to Chicago together for Travis’ work trip. Had a little happy hour with some of his team members, so it was fun to put a face with some of the names that I always hear about. I got a job offer from Great Lakes Higher Education that I accepted, which was only bittersweet, since it was not a lot of money and not a very glamorous job. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. But, only to find out after 6.5 days on the job, it just wasn’t for me. So…I returned to DEMCO as they were hiring for the job that I had when I left. Going back was super strange, it was definitely like a deja vu and felt very weird for the first couple of days. But now it is same old, same old as if I had never left.

Other than that, Kit and Ryan finally got engaged! Over Easter weekend, they took a trip to Vegas and Ryan popped the question, so excited for those two. Both sisters with upcoming weddings, should be fun! Also, babys are everywhere! Our friends Kevin and Emily are due any day with their first baby, we can’t wait to meet her! Scott and Kaye are getting closer to welcoming their little one as well. Definitely seems like the thing to do!

Travis is in Singapore right now and I believe it is the longest time that we have spent apart since we started dating! I don’t like it. Fortunately, it fell at a good time, as Bri came home for her Bridal Shower last weekend and we made it into a weekend long “Girl’s Weekend”, so that was fun! Kit, Mom and I spent then night in Milwaukee on Friday and waited for Bri to fly in, and Saturday was the shower. Then on Saturday, we had a slumber party and even Cam and Jaime spent the night! Dad is also coming Thursday night on his way to Chicago, so it is great to have the company and break up the week.

So that is the latest here! Hopefully it won’t be so long till the next update, although it should be a busy summer!

February Wrap-up

Well, seems strange to think that we’re already two months into 2010. It seemed that we didn’t do a great deal in February, but now thinking back, it actually wasn’t as dull as it originally seemed. I had some hours to burn up at work so I was able to take half day Fridays the entire month, which was fantastic and probably made the month go by quicker. I’m very lucky to have a flexible career that allows me to do that.

We started off February with a nice visit with our friends Ben and Abha, who recently returned from a six month European vacation/work trip. Next, we took in the Wisconsin vs. Michigan Camp Randall Classic hockey game with some of my coworkers and their wives/significant others, which was fun yet dreadfully cold. Downtown was an absolute zoo, but still a very exciting experience. I continue to play bean bags with Kevin on Thursday nights at Pooley’s so we get a chance to see him and his pregnant wife Emily on a weekly basis. So far, we’re 5-3 as we look forward to the playoffs in three short weeks. Rose and I had a nice steak dinner at home on Valentine’s Day which was also very nice. The weekend of the 20th, we paid Kit and Ryan a visit which was great. It was not only fun to see them but it was nice to get out of Madison for a little change of pace. I got the privilege to visit Miesfel’s Meat Market which proved to be well worth the visit! This past weekend we made a last-minute drive down to Mt. Horeb to see Paul and Jill to watch Paul brew a batch of beer and grab a quick bite with them.

As we look into March, I’m heading out to Annapolis, MD for a trade show next week and also going to be swinging by our Washington DC office while I’m out there for some meetings as well. It should be fun, as I haven’t traveled in nearly three months. Rose and I are also looking at doing some bathroom remodeling this month, hopefully starting with ceramic tile installation and moving on to the vanity and sinks in time. With that said, it appears March has come in like a lamb so not sure what the end of the month holds in store for us.

Grandma’s 90th Birthday & Carrigan Christmas

On January 8th it was Grandma Lucille’s 90th Birthday and the family decided to throw her a birthday party. It was pretty much as we expected, lots of old ladies sitting around and eating. I would have to say one of the highlights was when Lucille’s old neighbor came up to me and said that she couldn’t wait for me to get pregnant because she had a wooden baby gate for me. I had never met this woman before and was just in shock that she just said that, but it certainly made for some interesting conversation. After a few hours there, we headed to Mosinee for the Carrigan Christmas get together. We just did the game exchange this year, which was fun. Travis got a bag of meat and cheese, perfect for him, and I got a Target gift card and a crossword scratch off. It was fun to have the laptop there so we could Skype with Bri and Tony, it was like they were there! Mom and Dad also said they want to take us all to a baseball game this summer as a gift, should be fun! After that we all hung out, played with Camryn, and had some drinks.

Other than that, back to normal now that the holidays are over. Bri and Tony have set their wedding date, August 21, bringing next year’s wedding count to 3, possibly 4 if Ryan and Sarah get married before the end of the year. Between that and all the babies being born, should be a busy year!

2010 – The New Year

We spent the last two New Year’s in Madison, so we were excited when Scott and Kaye had decided to throw a party at their new house in Brookfield. Before the party began, we decided to take care of some other business in the Milwaukee area. We have been contemplating getting a little SUV and one of the dealerships had a Toyota RAV4 that we wanted to take a look at. We went and test drove it, but I don’t think either of us were blown away with it, so we’ll probably keep looking for now. Afterwards, we hit up a Polish restaurant called, Polonez (which was featured on Bizarre World with Andrew Zimmern), which was interesting. I just got a cheeseburger, because I am a non-adventurous eater, it was very tasty though. Travis decided on a side of Bigos (sauerkraut mixed with pork, beef, and sausage) and the Pierogis which were 4 Pierogi filled with your choice of cheese, sauerkraut, potato and cheese or meat filling. (he got one of each) Served pan fried. Overall, a pretty good meal.

Now onto New Year’s Eve, we finally arrived at Scott & Kaye after our afternoon of errands. Not too long after walking in the door, they showed us this card that Dana had given them and it was congratulating them on the baby and since they just got a puppy we weren’t sure at first if it meant a REAL baby and indeed it is, they are expecting their first baby in August! Everyone is having babies!! We mostly just hung out and drank, watched a little tv, pretty low-key overall. Then Friday we headed home to Madison, stopping briefly at Johnson Creek and Wendy’s for some naughty food since we hadn’t eaten much that day. It was a fairly early night to bed that night! The rest of the weekend was pretty low-key, we are looking forward to a very happy & exciting new year!

Christmas 2009

Another Carrigan girl engaged!! Bri and Tony got engaged on Christmas Eve, finally! They are planning a August/September wedding for 2010, can’t wait to help plan another wedding!

Our first Christmas as a married couple is now in the books. It started out somewhat rocky as Mother Nature was not cooperating with us. We were supposed to head up to Mosinee Christmas Eve day, but with freezing rain and snow in the forecast, we decided to stay put in Madison for the day/night. At that point, we decided to reschedule the Carrigan Christmas as all our schedules were busy with other Christmas plans. So as of now, we are going to try to get together in January. Knowing we were going to be home on Christmas Eve, we went to the grocery store to get some steaks for dinner. Dinner ended up being great, we had some T-bone steaks, baked potatoes, couscous and rolls. We then snuggled up on the couch and watched A Christmas Story, so not too bad overall. It was just disappointing that we couldn’t make it up to Mosinee because of the weather. We were a little nervous as the Christmas day weather was not supposed to be much better, but we monitored it on the DOT website and decided to head up to Holcombe. The roads ended up not being that bad, due to the rain and above freezing temps. Once we got the Holcombe, the eating began, we snacked a bit and the decided to open presents. We both got some great presents, I am especially excited to try out the new breadmaker! After presents, we ate some more and played a game of Dominos or “Mexican Train”, which was a lot of fun. Then on Saturday we all packed in the car and headed down to Marshfield to visit with Grandma & Aunt Sally, always an adventure. We also stopped in Colby to see the Thalacker clan, the kids were running around the house and it was somewhat chaotic but it is always fun to see them. Then Sunday, we hung out and watched some football and stopped in to the Holcombe Inn to “sign the book”, which ended up being less eventful than we thought! Afterwards, we had another delicious steak dinner and some more dominos. Monday rolled around and it was time to head home, at least the sun was out, which made for much better driving weather. All in all, a very good Christmas.

Home Alone

Travis has been in Chicago quite a bit this last month, meaning a lot of time that I am home alone. I really don’t like it when he is not home, meaning that I sleep on the couch and most of the time it means waking up in the middle of the night, not being able to sleep (i.e. the case right now). He is coming home later today and he has Friday off to do our Christmas shopping, so that should be fun! We are looking forward to fun times at both homes next week!

First Winter Storm

Madison was hit hard with our first storm of the winter, with 14.1″ of snow! Needless to say, it has been quite messy and the city has been scrambling to clear off the roads. Our road finally got plowed today, 4 days since the storm hit, craziness! So much for what was supposed to be a “mild winter”.

On a side note, I was up babysitting Camryn for a few days, amazing on how fast babies grow. She is now 3 months old and is starting to babble, laugh and is much more aware of her surroundings. So much fun to watch her grow.

Saturday concert

Rose and I went to see Colbie Cailliat Saturday night the Barrymore. Rose is a big fan and neither of us have seen a show at the Barrymore before, so it was a great night and a nice change of pace from usual Saturday nights. Opening for Colbie was a guy named Justin Young. I would classify him in the Jack Johnson category. Acoustic musician with a great voice who also played with Colbie when she took the stage. Colbie was really good, she’s a talent and definitely puts on a good live show. We both agreed she sounded exactly like she does on the radio, which in my mind, is a mark of a good musician. Oh, and we also scarfed down a Plaza Burger prior to the show.
